Workshop I: Stem Cell Biology from Basics to Applications

Stem Cell Biology from Basics to Applications

Overview:-  Symbiosis Centre for Stem Cell Research (SCSCR), a center dedicated to carrying out research in areas of haematopoiesis, extracellular vesicles, biomaterials, cancer, pluripotent stem cell research and stem cell epigenetics. We propose to have a workshop on basics of - stem cell identification, isolation, use of biomaterials and stem cells for tissue engineering & disease modelling, use of stem cell derived extracellular vesicles for therapeutic use, organoids in disease modelling, therapy and drug discovery. The participant will get an overview on the various aspects of stem cells biology from fundamental research to therapeutic uses of stem cells.

Target audience:-  Master’s students from Life Sciences, Doctoral students, Post-doctoral fellows, Research Associates, Early career scientists, College teachers, Medical graduates, Industry research Fellows.

Date : September 18, 2025

Time : 2:00 pm - 6:30 pm (Asia/Calcutta)

Workshop Session Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  1. Understand different kinds of stem cell populations and their properties
  2. Explore the use of biomaterials and organoid culture for tissue engineering & disease modelling
  3. Understand the use of extracellular vesicles derived from stem cells as therapeutics for treatment of complex disorders
  4. Explore use of stem cell for in vitro disease modelling
  5. Learn about epigenetics and genetic mechanisms that regulate stem cell growth and differentiation
Learning Outcomes

At the end of this workshop, candidates will be able to:

  1. Identify unique properties of stem cells.
  2. Describe the potential applications of biomaterials and stem cells in regenerative medicine.
  3. Explain use of autologous stem cells for personalized medicine/therapy.
  4. Describe therapeutic potential of extracellular vesicles derived from stem cells.
  5. Explain use of stem cells to understand disease pathogenesis & drug discovery.
